Artist Statement

I use model-making materials to create versions of natural phenomena - waterfalls, black holes tornadoes, steam- that don't have a rigid architectural structure and are in constant flux. These sculptures are based in the tradition of model making and research of tensegrity engineering practices. The intended imperfections in the sculptures reference this duality. Science dissects natural phenomena in an attempt to understand the way things work. I am interested in the magic of the natural world, and how we experience those moments when we gaze awestruck at a powerful tornado or waterfall.  I try to convey a replica of something that has no real structure to it, but is instead a manifestation of energy that is both fragile and explosive.
