Laura Paulini - CV & Artist Statement

Laura Paulini - Artist Statement

I work in egg tempera, applying the paint drop-by-drop. My compositions begin with a plan that is then allowed to evolve. The execution, methodical and painstaking, employs measured movement with an implication of progress, balance, and unity. The overall pattern, intermittent and irregular even at its most complete, reveals a natural cycle, embodying decay as well as growth. It is this tension - between a desire for structure and the inevitability of change - which I hope to make visible in my abstractions.
