David Stein - CV
About the Artist
David Stein has been awarded residencies at the Bemis Center for the Arts and The McDowell Colony.
His work has been reviewed in the San Francisco Chronicle and been the Critic's Pick on Artforum.com.
He has received the Murphy Fellowship and the California College of the Arts All College Honors award.
David Stein's work has appeared in group shows at Southern Exposure, Club Six, New Langton Arts, the Rooseum, and the Kunsthaus Dresden (a German alternative exhibition space-museum hybrid).
The Rooseum, in Malmo Sweden, held a contest for impossible public art projects. Artists proposed these projects as posters and customers voted for public projects by buying posters. David Stein won the competition with his proposal for America to trade Rap for Sweden's welfare state and was given an award to try and realize the project. His attempt, a Powerpoint presentation and talk, waded into the bureaucratic and political steps necessary to facilitate this change.
